Planning Mommy’s List of Must-Have Baby Toys

Shopping for your baby can be a bit overwhelming. Sure, you registered for some fun toys, but once your baby is here, you want to help them learn and explore even more. There are SO many options out there and many seem to cost a fortune. I don’t have a problem spending money on quality toys my child will use for a long time and be able to pass on to other children. But, how do you know what toys are the quality toys? How do you know how long they will play with them?

We polled a group of Planning Mommys and have come up with a great list of 15 Must-Have toys that we know your child will love and play with for a long time.

Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Table. This toy is actually owned by each of the Mommys that we polled. The legs can be removed from this toy and used by your baby on the floor. Once your baby begins pulling up to stand, attach the legs and let your baby cruise around the table and play at the 4 different stations. This toy has a book, piano, computer, and telephone section. It is also bi-lingual! This toy is a big hit at play dates too because 4 different babies can actually play on this at once! Recommended Age: 6 months – 3 years.

VTech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker. This was another toy owned by each Mommy in our poll. This toy is a favorite because your baby will love to sit in front of this an play with the many different activites. The front panel can be removed for play on the ground. Once your baby is standing, they can use this toy to cruise around and gain confidence on their feet. Recommended Age: 6 months – 3 years.

Fisher Price LP Music Parade Ride-On. If your looking for a toy to serve a large age range, this is it. Once your child is able to sit, they can play with the fun instrument sounds on the front. When your baby is more steady, they can sit on the toy and push it. And then obviously they can ride on the toy as well! In addition to all the different ways your child can play with this toy, it has many different instrument sounds and fun revving sounds. Recommended Age: 6 months – 3.5 years.

Leap Frog My Discovery House. This is a fun toy that babies can play with during tummy time or sitting. It has so many different buttons to push and areas for them to explore. The little house teaches opposites and daily routines. It also has fun songs and even a few stories! This is a toy that your older child would also love to play with your baby. Recommended Age: 6 months – 3 years

Vulli Sophie Giraffe. Sophie is a very popular chew toy, for good reason. Sophie is BPA and phthalates free. The baby can easily grasp this toy and chew on any part of Sophie’s soft natural rubber. Each Sophie is individually hand painted with food paint. Recommended Age: Birth – 1 year.

Bright Starts Activity Balls. These activity balls are 2.5″ in diameter and very easy for little hands to grab. Each ball does something different! The balls are bright colored and are definitely fun for the baby to look at and touch. Recommended Age: 6 months – 2 years.

B. Zany Zoo. This 12″x12″ activity cube is fairly expensive, but in our opinion, worth it. It is made of wood and heavy enough to hold your baby if he/she decides to pull up on it. Each side has a different activity for your baby to explore. Recommended Age: 6 months – 3 years.

B. Elemenosqueeze Blocks. This fun shape blocks are companion blocks to the B. One Two Squeeze Blocks by B. Toys. They are rubbery blocks that come in all different shapes and sizes. Each block has a letter of the alphabet and an animal starting with that letter. Your baby will enjoy chewing on these when they are yound and then enjoy building a fun tower when they are older. Recommended Age: 6 months – 4 years.

B. Fish and Splish Boat. Another one of our favorite toys from B. Toys. This boat is the perfect tub toy.  It comes with fish that you can catch with a pole, 3 nesting cups with different holes for water to pass through, and a big floating boat with a captain and life preserver. The best part is that there are no squeeze toys that get moldy! Recommended Age: 6 months – 4 years.

Melissa & Doug Giddy-Up and Play. This is a new version of the Ryan toy from K’s Kids. This toy is so great for babies to crawl around and on top of, with a different activity wherever they go. Older kids can also sit on the horse and ride him. It’s the perfect blend of a cuddly companion and activity center! Recommended Age: 4 months – 3 years.

Lamaze Take Along Toy. Lamaze makes so many adorable take along toys! Each of their toys are made with nice bright colors and different textures for your baby to explore. They each come with a clip for you to attach the toy to a diaper bag, stroller or car seat. Recommended Age: Birth – 1 year.

Lamaze Cloth Book. Another great Lamaze product is their cloth books. Babies love turning the pages and being able to chew on these books. The colors are just as bright and stimulating as their take along toys. And the pages have big flaps for them to open and explore. Recommended Age: Birth – 1 year.

Fisher Price Baby’s First Blocks and Rock Stack Bundle. This bundle comes with two different Fisher Price toys! The Rock-A-Stack is a baby classic. With this toy, they learn how to stack rings in size order. The other toy in this bundle is the Baby’s First Blocks. This toy enhances problem-solving skills by teaching the baby to match the shaped by inserting them into the bucket. Both of these toys are great for a variety of developmental skills.
