Hello and welcome to PlanningMommy.com. My name is Kristin and I’m addicted to planning (if you couldn’t tell by the title of my website). I also must admit that I am bit of a worrier. For as long as I can remember, planning keeps my worrying to a minimum. This only became more important me after my husband asked me to marry him in the spring of 2009, and I realized that we had a wedding to plan and not much time to do it! I had spreadsheets with detailed costs, itineraries, and vendors. They even had the weather forecast on them. I planned what we thought was a great wedding, and I did it in just three months! Organized planning was the key. Since our wedding, I have passed my planning spreadsheets to all of my newly engaged friends and family as way to help them prepare and organize the chaos that is planning a wedding. That was when my friends first recommended that I start a website.
Once we started having kids, planning and the need to be organized become even more important to me. The less I know about something, the more I have a drive to plan for it! While I was pregnant with our first little boy, my husband’s cousin Jen gave me a list of baby must-haves. All of the books you read and the stores out there tell you the nice-to-haves or really, what they want to sell to you. Jen’s list narrowed it down to the absolute must-haves and the really nice-to-haves. Her list cut out the unnecessary baby items that end up not ever being used and just clutter up your house or attic. I took her list and put my own spin on it, adding the latest and greatest pregnancy, baby, and eventually toddler items. I updated the list almost monthly as a result of hours of research and trial and error with my own boys or through my friends’ experiences. As my friends started their own families, I kept getting requests for my list of recommended products. Every mother-to-be in my circle emailed me soon after they had a positive pregnancy test. I’m pretty sure I knew they were pregnant before they told their families (and sometimes even their husbands! :)). Once again my friends told me that I needed to start a website because my list would probably help a lot of expectant and current moms out there who might feel a little overwhelmed and just need a little help getting started. Maybe they just need a little advice from someone who has been there.
I started out as a commercial interior designer where I honed my planning and organization skills. After we had our first little boy and after much discussion, I opted not to go back to work and became a stay-at-home mom. Now we happily live in Texas and have three awesome little boys, who are just that…BOYS! They punch, hit, and shove their ways into to my heart a little more each day! My husband has a very demanding job, so I hold down the fort and spend most of my days carting the boys around between school, play dates, the grocery store, and doctors appointments! It’s a hectic life, but I love it and wouldn’t trade it for the world…most days!
Since my experience is somewhat limited having only boys, I enlisted the help of four of my closest friends: Michelle, Kelly, Sarah and Chelsea. Between the five of us, we have seen just about everything you can imagine as mothers and friends. Each girl is not only an amazing friend, but also an amazing mom. They are a mix of working and stay-at-home moms with multiple children and a unique perspective to offer on everything from biting to breastfeeding and from miscarriages to post-partum depression.
It is my hope that this website helps relieve your worries as a mother-to-be or as a current mom just looking for a little help because the struggle is REAL! Maybe, you just need to know that you aren’t alone! If you have any questions about being a mom, getting/staying organized, or ideas for articles, give me a shout!
